Yes I felt terrible! I thought how would I feel if I saw my husband giving my stuff away and I thought I’d hate it. But I also would have hated him to have to live with my stuff that was of no use to him. He was dead one year yesterday and it is still very hard. Reading your message made me realise that not having his personal belongings around doesn’t change all the memories and love in my heart for him and he’ll never be gone. Your husband will still be in your heart and memory no matter where you are or what you surround yourself with.

That is what this woman did, she put a postcode in and joined my group in Nottinghamshire and then when she’s contacted she says she’s just moved and says you can have the item for free but you just need to pay for the courier. No money is allowed to change hands on Freecycle either.

How the scammers work on freecycle is they advertise something for free, for example I saw a Pinball machine for free in my local area. It all looked really genuine so I contacted the woman, then I got a story that she had just re-located to Cornwall but if I paid her courier he could deliver it to me, when I asked if I could organise my own courier she disappeared and I never heard from her again. I contacted Admin and it was a known scam.

I know and really I’m a fine one to talk as my situation is complicated. My husband was killed in an accident while we were living in France, he had numerous motor bikes, old cars, a garage full of tools etc. which his friend helped me to sell – that is when I felt just awful as I watched each thing leave. I needed to come back to our house in the UK and I never touched any of his stuff in the house before leaving, all his clothes are still hanging up in the wardrobe, his book with the book marker on the page he was reading just before he died, his toothbrush,razors etc. are still in the bathroom. When I left for the UK in November I thought I would be able to return for his anniversary in March but of course with lockdown it’s still not possible. So when I go back to France I will finally have to do the big clear out that you have done and as you say it will be another milestone.
