Personally, I don’t think it needs a background. It stands it’s own ground.

To me, it’s resolution, determination, strength, reliability. Had it been upwards it would have other connotations like anger, violence, aggression

Cool, the hand/arm is pointing downwards so to me it feels like supressed anger/ power or frustration? Don’t think you need a background, or your could do tones of a violent colour or even the folds of something soft and silky to emphasise the power in the fist? It’s great whatever you choose x

I’m with Solstice and Staying Alive on this one; I don’t think it needs a background. By the way, at the risk of stating the bleeding obvious, I think you have made a good fist of this sketch.

It does stand its own ground very well.
Or depending how you feel you could put it against a yellow and blue flag.
In this current state of affairs, I think this would make a great statement.
Just a thought. I know it controversial!
