Absolutely loved OMD, particularly the early stuff, The More I See You and Stanlow – top tunes!
But…..
And this very well could be just me, but, isn’t there something just a little smug looking about Andy Mcclusky??? 😮-

He can afford to be so as he’s written and co-written some great songs. Nothing to prove and releases music with no consideration to chart performance, sales etc.

Rick Astley (whose music has got even better over time) and always rather enjoyed Bananarama too. They are both lovely and lots of fun IRL too and seem ageless (that’s me with them in the photo in case you hadn’t guessed)!

Saw INXS in the late 80’s with Michael Hutchence in full pomp and swagger, given it was at the NEC which I’ve always found hard to engage with any band at that venue, the atmosphere was amazing and the performance production was the best I’ve seen

Lucky you! Someone I knew had a spare ticket to see them – it was offered to me but meant going with people i didn’t know…so I didn’t go…big regret!

I saw the same tour but at the Excel Centre in Docklands. Michael Hutchence certainly had a amazing influence on the whole arena. He is sadly missed.

I saw them a couple of times – first, when they’d just released Listen Like Thieves, supporting Queen, and the second time in their own right at Wembley Arena on the Kick tour. I have to say that latter gig was amazing and I’ve never seen so many people up on their feet dancing.

Saw Pete Tong a couple of years back and have tickets for this December at the O2. We go back a long way as he was the DJ at our local pub when we were both 17/18. I have followed his career right from the start. I guess that is my claim to fame and lot at us, we are both still going 🙂

I saw them live many times between 1986 and 2006. Arguably they’re a shadow of their former selves since Hooky left in 2007.

Dr & The Medics – saw ’em at Whitby a few years back fantastic performance, very well received. The Dr himself said “What a pleasure it is to be playing to 500 miserable goths!”
Saw sigue sigue sputnik electronic as well – somewhat camp and OTT but I liked them – didn’t go down do well with the gother-than-thou community – but then what does?

80s music 🎶 🎵 was the best. There are so many good artists and bands. That’s a hard one.
Rod Stewart and Queen. 😁 -
Colin in Kent 29th September 2021 at 3:48 pm
Eurythmics, The Police, Ultravox, Duran Duran, Dire Straits, Squeeze, Dead Can Dance. The sheer creativity and verve of the New Wave and New Romantic bands in the first half of the 80s was phenomenal. The late 80s was terrible though!

Ultravox were the reason I became a musician. I saw them live loads of times between 1980 and 2012. Midge Ure performed the whole of the Vienna album (and some Visage gems) almost two years ago and really did the songs justice. He’s heading out on tour again soon and will play songs from Rage In Eden, Quartet and Lament. Billy Currie continues to record his own music.
