I do like a nice Gin, preferably Whitley & Niell or Harrisons and not Gordons, but it has to be mixed with Fever Tree tonic water. Other than that I like dark rum and Scotch Whiskey.

Having got very drunk on gin in my teens I never touched it again. It’s vodka for me now.
-
Kathscot 7th January 2022 at 10:04 am
From what I’ve seen on TV Gin is made from Vodka with a few additives
-
Mad Ralph 7th January 2022 at 12:25 pm
Yes it’s basically vodka distilled with juniper berries to give it the flavour.

Awful, I remember being sick in a toilet cubicle in a nightclub when I was young, it was like something out of a horror movie, it was all over the walls…don’t ask how because I don’t know, it’s definitely something I’ve never touched since either lol

John Smiths? You’re joking right? 😂 As a young drinker I drank Bitter. On my 18th birthday in a Lancashire pub, I ordered a lager, (because the bitter in Suffolk where I was stationed in the RAF was rubbish). An older gentleman sat at the bar told me, “ there are 3 types of people drink lager. Women, southerners, and I can’t mention the 3rd as it’s no longer acceptable”. I’ve drunk bitter, or what they call “ale” now ever since. I don’t class “smooth” or “cream flow” in the same class of beer. Rev James by Brains is what is usually in my fridge these days, and other “proper” ales/beers also. But I also enjoy a gin, dark rum or scotch whiskey.

I’m not keen on Gin prefer flavoured Vodka although I do find they leave me feeling a little flat the next day… prefer wine !

Mmm sorry Tanya it’s a yes from me…with loads of ice tonic and a slice of lemon or lime I used to live in Spain the measures there were generous to say the least and as a really long drink was refreshing and thirst quenching, must admit British pub measures just leave me wanting more ( that’s for all spirits not just gin)

Hi Tanya, I must be an odd bod too, I hate the stuff, in fact it makes me physically sick if I even try a sip. Give me my Pussers Rum any day. BTW love your GSD’s, here’s a photo of my fur baby, Max. Take care!!! x

Pusser’s Rum, now you’re talking.
I have a bottle of Pusser’s ‘Gunpowder Proof’ sitting in the cupboard.
Only to opened when old shipmates get together.

Aww, he is a baby, still has his puppy fluff!! I’d have a house full of I could. I’m also a rum fan!!
-
Daisychain 8th January 2022 at 8:41 pm
I used to but it’s a depressing drink. It’s not called Mother’s Ruin for nothing! It used to be a cheap drink for the working classes, gin palaces and all that!

I’m not a fan, don’t like it on cocktails or a g and t. Not keen on spirits apart from brandy. You’re not an odd bod 🤭

Lol, you are not alone as I don’t like it either! Don’t drink but when I do it’s usually ‘sweetish’ like Cinzano and lemonade, Bicardi and coke or Baileys! Lol

Enjoy a gin now and again. Refreshing and uplifting, a very nice aperitif.

Always 26th June 2022 at 8:25 am
I love a nice gin Hendricks or Whitley Neill with tonic. Not a fan of sweet flavours like raspberry or the pink gin but a nice rhubarb one with ginger is lovely 😊

Betsy 27th June 2022 at 2:04 pm
Me neither then I don’t really drink much at all only at social functions and I cant remember how long ago it was since I went out socially. I’m sure your not alone, its awful unless you drown the taste with orange or lime or something similar.

Struggle with Gin due to necking my mums as a kid (my mistake) and after that the mere smell put me off
Few years back tried my sister orange gin and tonic and loved it. Great summer ‘long’ drink
Not tried any other flavours though.

Love a g&t ice and a slice. Was always the airport drink at the start of a holiday! Brings back good memories

I used to think gin was like taking nasty medicine but since going on the Slimming World program I have tried to like it as it is minimal calories (syns) and what do you know I do actually like it. Bombay Sapphire is my favourite but love to try the flavoured ones. Even had a go at doing my own rhubarb gin.
Give it a try!!
