  • Lifetime mortgage

Hello, my name is Ellen and I recently had my 67th birthday. I am still working full-time as an Administrator for the NHS and have worked throughout the Corona crisis. I would absolutely love to retire and do something creative but I still have financial commitments and offspring to support. I would like to hear from anyone who has had experience of Lifetime mortgages as, from what I have heard,  this could be a way to achieve my target.

      Hi Ellen,

Thanks so much for getting in touch. As I’m sure you know, lifetime mortgages are a type of equity release plan and involve you unlocking some of your property wealth. There are lots of pros and cons to consider, and it’s worth having a look at our article https://restless.co.uk/money/mortgages-and-property/equity-release-what-is-it-and-how-does-it-work/ which explains more about it. We can’t offer advice unfortunately, but there are lots of advisers which specialise in this area – the Equity Release Council (ERC) which is the trade body for the equity release sector has lots more information on lifetime mortgages, and you can search for an equity release provider that belongs to the ERC here.

Thanks very much again for getting in touch,

      Melanie (Money writer)
