hi im Margaret, living in glorious Ramsgate for the last 3 years but still feel like a newbie; not yet established in “friendship groups”. I work part-time in a lovely coffee-shop but of course not at the moment,so am missing any human interaction. Do I sound fed-up? hehehe…..I love live music.

Hello Margles the coffee shop sounds like something you can tell me about.

      Hi Margles

This current life can be so isolating. Although you have the beauty of the changing seascape in front of you, I agree, we are all craving familiar faces.

Ive only just joined, but have been struck by the friendly people on here.

Lets find some joy and sparkle in sharing conversations until we can get our lives back how we want them to be

hi Cecelia, yes ramsgate is glorious albeit blummin chilly with the wind [nobody tells you about that!] but theres only so much you can do if you live alone and have few friends during these odd times….and no way of making new ones! what do you do to keep busy?

Its hard to keep positive when every day is the same and yiu feel isolated. Thank goodness there is light at the end of the tunnel and we are all allowed to do more.

I work 3 days (Tues Wed and Thur) for a children charity . Very busy on those days, so nice to relax on others. I have been doing some online courses (Reed have some great offers…some courses only a tenner) and I have just completed Life Skills Coaching Level 7. Im intending to offer my services pro bono to charities when I retire in a couple of years time, but in the meantime, im just enjoying my free time after working full time for over 50 years.

I get how difficult it is to meet new people in an area where you haven’t grown up, but these and other forums are great to be able to chat.

You do sound a little fed up but don’t worry, we’ll let you off on this occasion 😄😄😄 , don’t let it happen again, dungeon life (lockdown) isn’t much fun is it, sunshine is nice today,

My son lives down in that neck of the woods with his mum, there are some lovely places round there. I love live music as well, have a few gigs postponed from last year which will hopefully happen Sept / Oct time. You simply cannot beat it.

I moved from a busy life in London and a demanding job to Westgate- on -Sea
a year before Covid hit. For the first year I was working away from home a great deal, so I had the balance of my job and then was able to come home to a peaceful haven and have friends and my daughter to stay at the weekends. Then it was all gone due to Covid and I hadn’t really carved out a new friendship group where I am , so I do empathise. I have no regrets about my move but this is the first time I have lived alone and am not been mega busy or had my friendship groups around me. I still feel like I am in some surreal dream. Ramsgate is lovely but being anywhere at this time and still finding your tribe can be hard!

Hi Margles, I used to live at Canterbury and went to Ramsgate a lot when younger but I am now in Outer London . My friend has a holiday flat at Ramsgate and loves going there to escape. It was also one of the lowers Covid areas in the country !

      HI Margaret
I live down the road near Sandwich. Moved here in August from Canterbury. I joined Meet Up a couple of years ago and they have quite a lot of members in and around Ramsgate. I went to a couple of lunches. Think they have a coffee and natter group but I didn’t go to that. I am lucky enough to have a few friends scattered around and 8 of us used to go every week to the gym in Canterbury and have coffee. I think once we can get out and about Sandwich will be good. Seems to be lots going on. I have joined the Bowls club and a Twinning Assoc. But I am lucky as I don’t mind going to things on my own..
I know how you feel saying you are still a newbie. I moved to Canterbury from South London 20 years ago and for years I said I am new to the area.. time flies.

      Hi Margles

I have just moved to Broadstairs, semi retired as teacher. What do you think about setting up a Thanet social group? Many things to do in this area, the independent cinema in Broadstairs, some of the pubs should be having live bands again or just meeting up for coffees, walks or meals. Let me know what you think. There are some others on this site who live near by.

      Take care.

      Alison
