  • Having taking early retirement from teaching age 63, I had just got established as a private tutor when coronavirus struck and all my tutees vanished. Now wondering about training as a proofreader or copywriter.

Anyone got any experience of either proofreading or copywriting? As an English graduate and teacher, I think I would enjoy the work but how do you start? Should I take a course and if so, any recommendations? And how do you find work? Really grateful to hear from others who’ve done this kind of work? Thanks. Clare

      Hi Clare,

      I’ve been considering proof-reading too.

Have you made any progress? I’d be interested to know how you are getting on.

I took early retirement from teaching at 55! I also started tutoring privately before lockdown, and, like you am wondering what’s next!

Hi Clare. You might try the Chartered Institute of Editors and Proofreaders (CIEP). https://www.ciep.uk

They offer a full range of training.

      Good luck!
