No but I have spent a lot of time kayaking and camping along canals. A very restful and enjoyable experience, everyone I met seemed happy and friendly! Don’t underestimate the work though – locks take a lot of effort, tunnels are pretty atmospheric!
I went on a canal holiday many moons ago and it’s on my list to do again. As Andy says locks are hard work and you do need another pair of hands one to stay on board the other to do the gates. There are waterways with fewer locks though. It is so relaxing and slow pace. I loved it.
I have been on a couple of canal holidays … the more people to help with the locks the better ! …. lots of fun and plenty of places to stop and get provisions and lovely scenery …. all at just 4MPH … walking pace …. the narrow boats I have hired were comfortable and well equipped …. and lots of canalside pubs for the evenings !
