Great work – lots of life and character in the face. Charcoal is a great discipline because you can’t rub it out like pencil so you naturally check the mark more carefully before you place it on the paper; it’s messy (unless you have charcoal pencils) but it’s fun to blend and is ideal for use of the chiaroscuro technique of lightest light next to darkest dark to give contrast and 3D form.
